How to Make 2020 Your Best Year Yet, Professionally and Personally

As we’re closing in on the end of the second month of the year, where are you with reaching your goals?  What about those New Year’s resolutions? This is the perfect time to take stock and make changes that are realistic and can get you where you want to be, or at least steps closer.  Let’s take a look at what you can do to get back on track, and make 2020 amazing!

#1 Don’t Fall Into the All or Nothing Way of Thinking

You know this one.  You make a list of all your goals and resolutions, but then when you mess up (many of us do), it all goes out the window.

We have all done this at one time or another.  Weight loss is a big one where people fall into this negative pattern.  Got that flavor shot in your latte, and a bagel with cream cheese for breakfast and then the rest of the day is sabotaged.  But, if we change our thinking a little, just a little, it can make a monumental difference.  There’s something powerful about giving ourselves permission to “re-set” and start again. Starting again can be the second after you gulp down that last bite.  Not the next day, but the next meal.

You want to make $10,000 a month in profit in your business. January goes by, February goes by, and you haven’t hit your mark.  Come March, you feel that the income goal is too difficult and forget about it.  But what if you took the all or nothing pressure off of yourself?  Try this instead.  Keep track of every dollar coming in each month.  Use a basic spreadsheet, a list in Notepad on your phone, or download an app – whichever way you do it, there’s something tangible and motivating about keeping track of daily monetary gains.  It’s like adding to your savings account, the more you add, the more you want to save.  So instead of beating yourself up that you didn’t hit your goal, keep looking at the positive by concentrating on the monetary additions each month, no matter what they add up to.  Keep at it and you’ll find yourself finding ways to keep those additions coming in.  Every step is a step closer to your goal.

#2 Cut Out Toxicity

Toxicity comes in many forms, personal relationships, business relationships, junk food, and time sucks.  When you want growth, prosperity and health, you have to make room for it.  Say no to the things that are toxic and taking up that precious room.

You know what’s toxic for you.  You get that yucky feeling after eating it, or dealing with the person, or that inner guilt for wasting your time.

Personally, I did this last year and it’s made a huge difference in my life.  I’m more self-assured, confident, and downright happy.  When you’re not dealing with that difficult client, toxic family member or eating junk food, you spend your time making better decisions, more productive actions and smiling more instead. Who doesn’t want that?

#3 Surround Yourself with Good

Good People. Good Words.  Good Deeds.  They all add up in your “best year pool”.

Want to grow your business?  Surround yourself with people who are moving forward professionally.  That associate who is getting the deals and making things happen, yup, that one, go grab lunch with her.  Those friends who just bought their dream home because their hard work in business has paid off, congratulate them and listen to their story.  That can be very inspiring and motivating. Invest your time with people who are like-minded in growth.

Read more, learn more, act more.  Now, I love a good suspenseful fiction to escape, but I also love reading a book on the latest marketing techniques, business case studies, or even a blog post about confident women making their dreams come true.  Reading positive stories, quotes and learning something new all help propel us forward.  Then, and this is important, go act on the ideas that hatch.

#4 Feel Good About Money

Feel good about making it.

Feel good about saving it.

Feel good about giving it.

Feel good about spending it.

Plain and simple.

#5 Make Sure Your Goals Are Ones You Actually Believe In

You attract what you believe in, good or bad.  You can’t fake your own body and mind.  It knows if you don’t really believe in the things you say you want.  And that can cause an imbalance that’s hard to get past.

So, this one is easy.  Ask yourself, do you truly and honestly believe you can reach the goals you’ve set?  Because if the answer is yes, then you’ll hit them more easily.  If the answer is no, then take action to reach them until you do believe.  You see, action creates belief. See yourself as already there, until you get there.

We have 10 more months in 2020. That’s plenty of time to make it your best year yet.  What will you do to make sure it is?
